מאירה…

Exodus along the ocean’s side,
A familiar walk from Egypt,
Chag HaMatzot.
A wave crashing above,
My lover’s head,
Poseidon’s voice then howling,
“What have you done…”
Across this oceanfront,
Will the words,
Memory’s face,
Leave an imprint,
On our hearts, or,
Make our hands,
Slip away from us,
Lose.
If I try to stand,
On the sand,
Past has brought me to,
On this sacred, only space,
Promised by God,
Will I be safe to be with you,
You with me,
My land, your land, our home.
Where peace floats away,
And dissipates into,
Nothingingness with,
Only haunting screams continued from,
Holy day.
Should nourishment be,
Fear and tears, or,
Should my child,
And your neighbor’s child,
Feel blessed,
Protected, and free,
Looking across,
Our kingdoms, together,
Does this mean you are not,
My son, too.
If I share,
And love you,
As a lover could,
An imaginable love,
Can our place be,
You in me,
Me in you.
Will my precious daughter,
Be returned to me,
How I cry out for her,
To only see her smile again.
Or, will this mean the end for,
My brother, your bother, too.
Will your father, my sister,
Endure a war, crippling,
The leg,
Birthright stands on,
Leaving remains,
Child’s toys,
And where music ends,
From terror,
Our victims’ solitudes,
Drowning us two.
I understand nothing,
Other than Israel, to protect,
And you.
You, too.
My given necklace broken,
מאירה…
And yours, Star of David,
Next to a crescent moon.
And,
A God who has left us,
Or, did He know, too.

Between Jerusalem and Mexico, a taboo love.
